    • Obituary:
      A memorial service for Betty McCown Hatch will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora, with the Rev. GaryMcCann officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in Fowler Grove Cemetery. Betty was born May12, 1918, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Elijah E. and Ethel (nee Swearingen) McCown. When she was 5 years old, the family moved to Urbana, Ill., when herfather was with the University Press. Betty was a graduate of Urbana High School and the University of Illinois, with a bachelor's degree in vocalmusic education. While at the university, she sang the title role in the university's production of Madame Butterfly. She was a member of DeltaGamma, Sigma Alpha Iota and Hope Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Urbana. Upon graduation from the University of Illinois, she taught school atJohnston City, Ill., for two years. On July 10, 1943, she married Donald J. Hatch, who had just finished his B-17 flight training and who leftDecember 1, 1943, to go overseas. Upon her husband's discharge from the service, they lived in Aurora for 15 years and then Quincy, Ill., for 30years. Betty worked at the Quincy Public Library for over 20 years. They retired to Oswego, Ill., where they lived in"The Gardens" of Boulder Hillfor many years before moving to Fox Knoll in Aurora. She is survived by her husband, Donald Hatch of Aurora; her son, ... ; her daughter, ... ; andone granddaughter, ... . Memorials to The Neighbors Next Door, Inc., 700 AudreyAve., Aurora, IL 60505, are preferred.
