    • Obituary:
      George Henry Usher Jr., was born in Providence, R.I. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1930.

      Mr. Usher spent most of his growing up years in the states of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He served in the Air Force, stationed at Sampson Air Force Base, in the state of New York, during the Korean War. He served three terms in the New York State National Guard and had four Honorable Discharges from the military, serving the country he loved very dearly. He married at 21 years old and raised four children, three step-children and four grandchildren with the help of his wife of 47 years, Roberta M. Perkins Usher.

      Mr. Usher lived most of his married life in upstate New York as a cook in several of the restaurants there. He also worked in the field of construction, building pole barns there. He came to Palatka in 1967 and settled in Interlachen for a short time andonce again resumed his employment as a cook. He worked for Porter B. Angel at Angel's Diner for more than 20 years before moving his employment to the Clock Restaurant, where he was working at the time of his retirement in 1998.

      Mr. Usher is preceded in death by his parents, George H. Usher Sr. and Gertude C. Usher; one sister, Trudy M. Bryant; wife, Roberta M. Usher; two stepsons, Robert D. Martin and Christopher M. Sarnicola; one son, David A. Usher; one grandson, Kevin M. Usher and one great-great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Willis.

      Mr. Usher is survived by his two sons, ... ; daughter, ... and stepdaughter, ... . There are thirty-three grandchildren, fifty-six great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

      Mr. Usher was a very family-oriented man and dearly loved being with and around his many grand children. We will miss him very dearly.

      Mr. Usher is to be cremated and his ashes will later be placed with his wife's, in Cayuga, N.Y.

      Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, until the time of the service. There is to be a memorial service in his memory, in celebration of his life, at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Watts Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Emerson as officiant.

      Everyone is welcome to come and share the joy of our father and grandfather's memory.

      In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Lakes, 6400 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, FL, 32177.
