- Milton VAN EPPS, s1/c, Gunners Mate Striker, 10th Division, joined the "California" while it was in dry-dock, Bremerton, WA, December 1943. Graduated GM School, Newport, RI, member of gun crew, 40mm quad mt, port side. Survived Kamikaze hit, Jan. 6 1945,Luzon. Lost his good buddy Joe Horky at that time. Was a member of the Burial Party at sea, late at night. Was aboard when the "Tennessee" rammed them, crossed the 180th Meridian, and the Equator Aug. 21, 1944. Received a fleet appointment to Annapolis, but arrived back in the states too late to join the current class. Assigned to the "M.C. Fox", DD829, and took part in the surrender and occupation of Japan. He thanks God for the atomic bombs.
Awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with six stars, Lingayen Gulf with on star, Philippines Presidential Unit Citation etc.

Obituary:
Milton C. Van Epps , 83, of Parish, NY, died Wednesday at the VA Medical Center, Syracuse, NY. He was born in Perryville, NY, the son of the late Charles and Laura Austin Van Epps. He was a WWII Navy veteran, serving from 1943 to 1946. He was a memberof the Russell Horning Post #601, the American Legion, Parish, NY, and the Hastings-Parish VFW. He was a gunsmith and owned and operated Van 's Gunsmithing of Parish, NY, and formerly operated Breckheimer's Gunsmith. He was a member of the NRA and a member of the Central Square Forest Rod and Gun Club.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, the former Lavina Klein; two daughters, ... ; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren,
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday from Harter Funeral Home, 2983 W. Main St., Parish, NY. Burial will be in Pleasant Lawn Cemetery, Parish,NY.
Calling hours will be 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the Parish Volunteer Fire Dept., McFee Ambulance Corps or Central Square Rod & Gun Club.
