CLEVELAND, Aaron E.
CLEVELAND, Aaron E.
This is Aaron Erastus Cleveland who enlisted into the Union Army in 1864 at 17-years old. He served in the Union Army's 1st Regiment Wisconsin Volunteer Cavalry Co. E. He fought at the Battle of Franklin in Tennessee. The uniform as a Civil War Union Army enlisted men's short cavalry jacket. On the end of the jacket sleeves are gold piped chevrons. He is also wearing an enlisted men's forage cap. He is wearing a Model 1851 Dragoon Saber Belt. The shoulder strap is known as a "Sam Brown." He is holding a Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber. The saber's hilt has a leather wrist strap hanging over his arm. He has a revolver tucked into the belt. Interesting to note that his belt buckle is upside down which may indicate that he was left-handed. This was taken in 1864-65.
